On August 10, 2021, the Official State Gazette published the Royal Decree 490/2021, by which the Structural Code. This rule will not apply in force Until next time November 10, 2021.
The new Structural Code It updates the current regulations relating to concrete and steel structures, in accordance with the latest technical and regulatory developments in the field.
Reasons for updating:
- Improve structural safety and fire safety.
- Environmental protection.
- The efficient use of natural resources.
Main new features?
- Regulation of new areas not considered until now.
- The sustainability assessment of the structures. This takes into account aspects such as the characteristics performance, environmental, social and economic, which will be provided by the agents participating in the project and execution of the structure.
- They are established harmonized conditions for the marketing of construction products.
- Incorporation of the most relevant aspects of European regulations for the structural calculations.
- In addition, recommendations for the use of structural sprayed concrete are included.
Regarding the sustainability assessment of the structures…
The Code It includes a voluntary model for property ownership. This model aims to assess the contribution to sustainability of the various stakeholders involved in the structure, from the designer to the builder and product manufacturers. This analysis must consider all the characteristics discussed above.
These include, but are not limited to: greenhouse gas emissions, recycling of materials, water consumption or of energy, use of renewable energies, emissions and noise control, environmental improvement, etc. In this way, the commitment of these agents is valued beyond the regulatory requirements.
